Norfolk Hotel - Nairobi - Kenya

Older than the London Ritz, no other hotel in Kenya has as rich a history as The Norfolk, one of the grande olde dames in the hotel world. When Abraham Block first opened its doors on Christmas Day 1904, it was to spearhead traditions of hospitality in East Africa, which are still unmatched today. As the city of Nairobi evolved as a capital around the hotel, it became a meeting place for the early pioneers, army and civil officers and most famously as the starting point for the great hunting safaris of that era offering hospitality to many of noble birth and Hollywood fame.

The Lord Delamere dining room, terrace and bar have always been at the centre of Nairobi's social life. Accent has been on fine cuisine ever since the first chef left his position at the New York Waldorf Astoria to join The Norfolk's' opening staff in 1904. Nowadays, The Ibis Grill is famed for excellent cuisine in a congenial atmosphere whilst the terrace and pool restaurants offer a more casual but just as mouth-watering selection.

The cottages, suites and rooms face onto the courtyard gardens and swimming pool and are elegantly furnished, each with en suite bathroom.For keep fit enthusiasts, there is a health club, gym and sauna around the heated swimming pool.
