With sweeping views of the reserve and surrounding battlefields, this wonderful old farmhouse is a great place from which to explore this mysterious area. Three terracotta cottages have been converted into six en suite bedrooms, which have been tastefully decorated in simple, ethnic style and an interesting array of Zulu and Anglo–Zulu war artefacts fills Fugitive's Drift Guesthouse. In the evenings, gather round the fire where wholesome traditional cooking is served.

Walks, horse-riding and drives are offered in the reserve and guests will see several species of mammal including giraffe, zebra and kudu. The birdlife is prolific, and over two hundred and seventy five species have been identified in the gorge below the lodge. Fishing is also a great pastime and the unspoilt surroundings are the perfect place for one to unwind. The guides are well versed in the history of the two battles and share fascinating tales of battle scenes and heroism. For the less active, there is a pool to soak up the sun and a small shop.
